Changeover
Dry Reed Switches Now Available from Coto Technology

Coto Technology has introduced the RI-90
Series changeover dry reed switch. With
an initial contact resistance of 140 milliohms (max),
the switch is ideal for high-reliability applications
in Automatic Test Equipment, Security, Industrial
and Consumer Applications. Additionally, the RI-90's
Form C contact configuration offers more options
for reed switch sensors applications.
Coto's RI-90
Series, with a 15mm max glass length, is
a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) type, having
three contacts: a common contact, a normally-open
contact and a normally-closed contact. When brought
in the proximity of a magnetic field, the common
contact will first open with the normally-closed
contact (NC), and then make contact with the normally-open
(NO) contact as long as the magnetic field is applied.
The RI-90 Series Ruthenium contact layers
provide long-life switching at a wide variety of
loads. The maximum switching current is
400 mA and 125VAC or 175VDC switching voltage. |

BGA Reed Relays Provide Superior RF Performance
Coto Technology, of Providence, RI, has announced
the release of two patented ball-grid-array (BGA)
Reed Relays. The B10
and B40
BGA relays utilize breakthrough patented technology
to provide leadless relay designs with enhanced
RF performance. The signal path in the BGA between
input and output is designed as an RF transmission
line, with an RF impedance close to 50 ohms throughout
the relay. With either B10 or B40 BGA relays, the
designer is able to switch or pass signals with
wider bandwidth and faster rise time than alternate
technologies. This is particularly important for
Mixed Signal IC testers. BGA packaging allows relays
to be easily integrated on boards designed for surface
mount processing.
The B10
is a single channel Form A BGA that uses
a minimum board space of only 0.1 sq in.
3.3V or 5V coils are standard and the RF insertion
loss (–3dB roll-off point) is >10 GHz.
Single channel simplicity makes B10 an economical
choice for RF switching, with prices < $10.00
at 1K. Delivery: stock to six weeks.
The B40
is a BGA with four independent form A channels in
one quad package requiring only 0.215 square
inches of board space. Both 3.3V and 5V coils are
available and the RF insertion loss (–3dB
roll-off point) is >11 GHz. Interchannel RF crosstalk
is minimized by a combination of coaxial and magnetic
shielding. Adjacent channel RF crosstalk is –25dB
@ 11 GHz. |

Ultra-Miniature
Surface Mount Reed Switches
Coto Technology, of Providence, RI, a leading
global supplier of high-quality reed switches and
relays, has introduced three new additions to its
growing line of surface mount Reed Switches. These
ultra-miniature SMT switches, with 5 mm max glass
length, feature a wider flat lead design to provide
both stability during component placement and improved
solderability for surface mounted applications.
The RI-80SMD
is Coto's newest and smallest SMT switch;
it is available in three different Gull or "J"
lead configurations. The J leaded version with .279"
(7.1 mm) is the smallest SMT reed switch sensor
available in the industry today.
The RI-80SMD is rated at 5W, packaged
in Tape & Reel to further facilitate automated
processing. |

Ultra-Miniature
Surface Mount Reed Relays
Coto Technology offers the 9852
series as the smallest Form "C"
SMD reed relay available, with a footprint of 0.078
sq. in. Expected life is 200 million cycles (N/O
contact), and 100 million (N/C) at 1V 10mA load.
RF bandpass (-3dB) is 4GHz (N/O) or 3GHz (N/C).
Isolation and return losses at 1 GHz are –10dB
and –20dB respectively. An external magnetic
shield reduces electromagnetic interaction between
closely spaced relays. This combination of small
size, long life and good RF bandpass is unattainable
by electromechanical or micromachined relays. Gull-wing,
"J"-lead or axial surface-mount styles
are available in tubes or tape-and-reel spools.

Miniature
Proximity Sensors for SMD Mounting
Coto Technology, of Providence, RI, a leading
global supplier of high-quality reed switches and
relays, has introduced two new additions to its
growing line of Molded Reed Switch sensors. These
miniature sensors, which are molded in thermoset
plastic to provide greater protection, have proven
to be ideal choices for automated pick-and-place
applications.
The CT05
is Coto's newest and smallest molded switch with
a body length of only 0.252" (6.4mm).
Based on Coto's 5mm switch design, it is available
in Gull or "J" lead configurations and
is the smallest molded reed switch sensor available
in the industry today. The CT05 is rated at 5W and
offers the same rugged design features of the CT10,
but at a smaller size.
The popular CT10
model has now been made available with a G4 lead
configuration, which features a wider flat
lead to provide both stability during component
placement and improved solderability for surface
mounted applications. The CT10 is rated at 10W.
Both products are packaged in Tape & Reel to
further facilitate automated processing. |

World's Smallest Reed Switch Now Measures 5mm Max
Coto Technology, of Providence, RI, a leading
global supplier of high-quality reed switches and
relays, has successfully developed and is now marketing
the smallest reed switch available in the industry.
Coto's
RI-80 , with the "ultra-small"
size of 5mm, (max glass length) is ideal for size-restricted
sensor applications in Medical Electronics such
as pacemakers, endoscopes, and hearing aids as well
as miniature industrial position sensors and consumer
applications – including Laptops, PDA's, mobile
phones and battery operated applications where no
external power supply is available. And, because
it is rated at 5 watts, the RI-80 is also well suited
for high-reliability, small signal automatic test
equipment.
Coto Technology's RI-80 is the only true
5.0mm reed switch available on the market -
while competitive products are promoted as being
as 5mm in length, in actuality, they measure 5.4-5.6mm.
Coto's RI-80, 5mm reed switch is priced
according to configuration and quantity,
with typical 4 to 8 week delivery. |
